4th Grade - 6th Grade Basketball
Practices held at Ocean Park Elementary, Long Beach Elementary, or Hilltop depending on the team. Games will be played at one of those schools, Astoria, Knappa, Warrenton, Naselle and Seaside. Coaches will contact players with schedules and additional information.
Players receive a shooting shirt to keep and a uniform top to borrow for the season.
There will be an additional travel season after the regular season. Coaches will nominate players based on performance, attitude, and commitment during the regular season. The travel team will travel from January to March - players will know if they have been selected during the last week of the season (December). There will be an additional fee for players to opt to join the travel team after nomination.
Rules
The following rules have been set by Astoria Parks and Recreation and we expect all participants and supporters to follow all applicable rules.
Injuries
If a player sustains an injury, he she must be removed from the game. He/she may return to play when recovered. If a player is suspected of suffering a concussion, he/she must be removed from the game and may not return until cleared by a medical professional.
Sportspanship
APRD has a ZERO tolerance for unsportsmanlike conduct for coaches, players, parents, and spectators. Failure to comply will result in an automatic ejection and removal from the facility and could result in permanently being removed from the league.
Ball Size
5th/6th Goal = 10 Ball Size: 28.5
3rd/4th Goal = 10 Ball Size: 28.5
2nd Goal = 9 Ball Size: 27.5
Game Structure
Each game will consist of two (20 Minute halves. The clock will run continuously and will only stop for time outs and the last 2 minutes of the game if the score is within 10 points.
One (60-second timeout per half per team. (Timeouts do not carry over).
Five minute halftime.
5th/6th Grade Press is allowed with a lead of less than 10 Points.
Substitutions
All players must play at least 8 minutes per half unless they are being held out for medical/disciplinary reasons, which should be communicated to the parents/guardians.Teams may sub at any dead ball and the referee will allow reasonable time for the opposing team to identify who they are guarding. The clock will stop.
Rescheduling
Program Directors will handle all reschedules. APRD does not have to be notified unless a gym/official is needed.
Game Rules
3s and 2s
Free Throw = 2 shots.
Non shooting fouls will be sideline out of bounds. On the 7th team foul per half, one free throw will be shot worth 2pts. 1 and 1 will not be shot.
No individual player foul outs, but at the referee’s discretion the player may be removed from excessive fouling/contact.
Defense
Man-to-man defense only with no traps or double teams. Defense cannot extend beyond half court. Help defense is allowed inside the 3pt line.
Scoring
Score will not be Kept for the 2nd grade league. All other age levels will be scored.
All Other Rules
All other rules are based on high school rules. Enforcement will be determined on players ability and grade level.
