SUMMER 2024

The Basics:

Transportation to and from community drop spots (OPE, LBE, Chinook School, and IHS) is available - families must sign up and commit to using this option.

For most camps, breakfast and lunch are provided through a partnership with the summer feeding program and the USDA. Most dietary needs can be accommodated, but not all. Light snacks are also provided each day.

We spend the majority of our time outside, in an active environment. Campers should be prepared to walk, hike, and play outside most of the time they are with us. In addition, we get messy, so please know that while we do our best to help kids keep that under control your child might come home sandy, muddy, sticky, etc. because we’re busy having fun!

All campers are expected to treat others with kindness and follow all camp policies. This includes ensuring that camp is a drug, alcohol, marijuana, vape, and weapon-free environment. As an ACA (American Camp Association) program, we expect campers to engage in activities, follow safety expectations, and work together. We are continually evaluating and improving our program using the Camp Program Quality Assessment Tool.

Camper Eligibility:

Campers need to be at least 5 years old (and entering kindergarten in the Fall of 2023) by the start of their first day of camp. Campers can be no older than 12 years old on the last day of their session. They must be able to independently use the restroom, follow adult directions, and be able to participate in a group setting with their same-age peers. There is no “rest time” during Day Camp.

Phones, tablets, and video games are not a part of the camp experience and therefore need to be left at home or in the camper’s backpack. We will ask campers to put them away if they are brought out. This is an expectation that we hold for ALL campers.

The Cost:

Our pricing is flexible to accommodate family needs and to be in compliance with our grant programs. Students who are eligible through our 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant attend traditional camp for free - as this program is paid for, in part, by 21st CCLC grant funds. We always accept additional donations to the general fund that help us offset the costs of programs that are not covered by grants. When registering, you will select the appropriate fee option for your child - please read the descriptions in full before making a selection.

Families from outside Ocean Beach School District will have the option to choose a rate that works best for their family (based on the actual cost of the program). Sports camps are a fee-based program as they are not supported by 21st CCLC funds.

Pacific STEM Robotics Camps

June 17-21, 2024 - Trainee Camp (Entering Grades 3-5): Students will build LEGO structures and a robot that are part of a battle arena where they will compete to be the last robot standing (LEGO Battle Royale). Students will work daily to improve their coding skills using block-based programming or even Python if they have programming experience. Students will engineer a project in Minecraft that they will present to a team of professionals that will determine the best design. The 2024 Trainee Minecraft theme is: My Dream School. A group of local programmers are working to add LEGO Rocket League to the camp as well.

June 24-28, 2024 - Apprentice Camp (Entering Grades 6-8): Students build age-specific LEGO projects that will strengthen their engineering and collaborative skills. Students will construct and code robots to outmaneuver their opponents in one-on-one autonomous battles (LEGO Sumo). The robotic competition that will be a part of this camp will be a LEGO Pod Racing. The Minecraft challenge that will be a part of this camp is Terraforming Mars. The panel invited to judge this challenge will be from STEM fields. A group of local programmers are working to add LEGO Rocket League to the camp as well.

Teen Leadership Programs

Teen Leadership Week: Focused on service leadership, participants will learn about leadership and plan three service projects to complete over the summer with their peers.

July 8-11 (Leadership Week)

July 15, 22, 29 (Service Days)

Leaders in Training: The LIT Program focuses on inspiring the next generation of leaders in our community. The three-day training program gears participants up to serve as Leaders in Training (LITs) during the summer, helping lead small groups and assisting staff with younger campers.

July 1-3 (LIT Training Week)

We expect LITs to serve at least 2 weeks during the summer outside of training week.
